I have to take a minute and write a bit about one of the greatest books I have ever read from the fantasy genre. Ranking right up there with The Lord of the Rings is the Icewind Dale trilogy by RA Salvatore.

This particular book was the beginning of the character Drizzt. To put a moment of sentiment in there, I loved this dark elf. He was amazingly skilled and had a great heart, but anyway… The Icewind Dale trilogy was centered around a terribly powerful Crystal Shard, Crenshinibon.

Through the trilogy, you meet an wondrous group of friends who end up traveling together, much like the fellowship in LOTR. The trials and tribulations are timely, and monsters fantastic, and the ending was great. I have nothing good things to say about this book and the author. And after reading five of his other trilogies, I maintain he is one of the greatest authors ever.
