How many of you have a Playstation 3?
Well it appears that a high price tag and degree of complexity are scaring away all but die-hard game fans.
Yesterday, Sony said that net profit slipped 5.3 percent, to 159.9 billion yen in the last quarter of 2006. The company blamed a large loss in its games division, despite rebounding sales in its electronics line.
In hopes of surpassing the launch of Playstation 2, Sony floundered. Not to mention some pretty stiff competition in Nintendo and Microsoft. Both of which released consoles which are easy to use, and lower in price than the PS3.
It is amazing to me to see that the ‘degree of difficulty’ is one of the chief reasons why people aren’t buying the gaming console.
In the end, it is all about user interaction. Web 2.0 has shown us this. Take a complex application, make it user friendly, and you have a hit on your hands. Make it difficult to use, and you better find the life raft, because it is a long way to the bottom!
