Seth Godin recently wrote about two kinds of people; those that read blogs and those that don’t.
It really is an interesting distinction, because as he points out blog readers ask, “How can I do what I do better.”
Those that don’t say, “I’m doing fine, leave me alone.”
My one challenge to that point is that despite the millions of people the know what blogs are (and are bloggers themselves) there are billions who haven’t a clue.
In various speaking engagements, when I am talking about blogging at least, I ask the audience who knows what blogging is. Some raise their hand, some don’t. The ones that do have a big smile on their face because they are bloggers themselves. Everyone else.. Not a clue.
So a blog reader looks for insight, news, and better ways to do things. Non-blog readers don’t know what they are missing. Or they don’t care..
