John Chow makes an interesting point in regards to linking text. When you link to a post or a page, the linking text plays a big part in the Google ranking of the item.
This is one of the most often overlooked parts of SEO. Oftentimes, I forget about it. That fact is though, Google will take a look at the linking text and assume it offers value to the place the link leads. Yahoo takes it one step further and watches all the words around the linking text.
Why do you think all of the text link ads bought both for advertisement and SEO have words other than where they lead? For example, on my other site, H&R Block bought on and the linking text is ‘tax calculator.’ They hope to rank high for that particular phrase!
Just something to think about when you start adding value to your own, deep links… Or when you exchange links with another site. Thanks John for the reminder!
