Well, it seems as though Microsoft will be offered on One Laptop Per Child. This illustrates very clearly that Microsoft will break down any barrier they see fit.
Personally, I don’t like this. As one of OLPC’s biggest critics initially, Microsoft told Nicholas Negroponte that the project wouldn’t work. But then, after a couple million units sold, MS requested units to be shipped there so they could begin testing to see if their operating system would work.
The long and the short of it: Microsoft suddenly realized that 5,000,000 (the production point of the first shipment) laptops would be running Linux. 5 million impressionable minds would be growing up with open source. To may way of thinking, if Microsoft would have held out, it would have been the beginning of the end.
